Waiting for baby

I love the excitement that a Maternity Session brings. Couples are always anxious to meet their new baby, but somehow Maternity Sessions exemplify that excitement. I too can't wait to meet their little one. I always look forward to the email that tells me their baby is here and it's time for the Newborn Session! This session was no different. I loved the interaction between the girls and their new baby sister! She is definitely going to be getting lots of kisses from them! The newborn session with these girls is going to be too sweet!

I love when I get to meet up with old high school friends. So, I was thrilled to get an email from Laura about family pictures! Her two daughters are beautiful!! It was such a blessing to get to meet her family! I love going to the park for Family Sessions. Gives the kids a chance to run around and have fun during the shoot!! Makes for MUCH happier kids and parents! :)

Christmas Review

I am so happy that it is finally January! That means I get to show you all some of the sessions I did during Christmas. This session was from the Christmas in the Country event I did. A day of pictures out at Mentryville! I absolutely LOVE this location. I also absolutely LOVE this family! I feel so blessed to get to photograph my friends. To be able to capture this time in there life for them to have forever is priceless to me!

Being a Photographer really is the best job! Not only do I get to hang out with AMAZING people (my clients really are wonderful!) but I get to freeze time for them. I get to freeze that moment in time and let them have it forever. Being able to capture the love the parents have for their kids and the fun they have together is priceless! That's what Family Sessions are all about. Being able freeze that moment in time to help you remember all the joy your family brings you.

This Family Session was exactly that! The kids ROCKED. The parents ROCKED. We ran around, and played and just had a GREAT time! You can definitly see the love in these photos!

Christmas Card Mania!!

Well, Christmas Cards have finally been sent, so now I can show you all the fun I've been having!! I love designing cards. It is just one of my many creative outlets I have/need. Do you ever have one of those days where if you don't do something creative you might just go crazy?! Well I do, especially in January and February when photography is slower. I wonder what random piece of furniture I will paint or what fun item I will find on the side of the road to claim as my own. Ahhh......the possibilities....
But for now, I have been extremely busy photographing lots of super cute families and designing fun cards for them.
Here is just some of what has been keeping me busy this month:

. . . and, of course MY Family! I love pictures of my kids! The family picture was taken by the wonderful Brain Harr . (It was weird being on the other side of the camera!) So happy to have such a cute picture of my family.

I LOVE Christmas Time! Especially now that I have kids. I have enjoyed getting to tell Owen about Santa {he is still not so sure about him though, he doesn't like men in hats with beards...} and also crack up every time he puts baby Jesus into his toy train for a ride.

I also love Christmas because I get to photograph SO MANY beautiful families! The hardest part is waiting to blog a bout them since I don't want to spoil their super cute Christmas Card pictures! So, since I can't post pictures quite yet I will show you newest idea. CHRISTMAS CARDS!!

This year I began designing Christmas Card templates. Some of my clients were looking for an extra special way to display their photographs from our photo session together. So, I began to design a few and then the creative juices just started flowing! {I always love when that happens!!}

Catching up

Having great roommates is SO IMPORTANT!! We've all had our fair share of no so good ones, so when we have nice ones we appreciate it! So many of my roommates have been so encouraging to me and my photography. One of the first weddings I photographed was for one of my roommates! She flew me to Arizona and that's when I realized that I was the luckiest girl alive. I would get to make money while doing something that I LOVE!! Thanks to her I pursued my passion for photography and now I am a Professional Photographer. All that to say that I was very excited when another old roommate of mine asked me to take some pictures of her cute family!

I loved getting to meet her adorable family!! Her daughter is GORGEOUS and so happy! I really enjoyed catching up with her and felt so blessed to get the opportunity to photograph them!

This is my son, Ryder, 1 week old. I could not wait to take this photo. I proudly wore this shirt while pregnant, but had purchased it for the purpose of taking this photo. It makes a point, and makes it boldly. I understand the controversy that comes along with a statement like this, which is why I was not sure if it belonged here on the blog. I try to keep the blog filled with joyful moments filled with lots of family love, but to me this picture is EXACTLY that.

I am pretty sure it is every photographers dream to shoot newborn TWINS! Well, at least it has always been MY dream. I LOVE photographing newborns. They are so cute and pliable! So when my friend Sharon told me she was pregnant with twins I was ECSTATIC! I am looking forward to capturing these twins as they grow! So stay tuned for more of these cute kids!

Rub a Dub Dub..smiling baby in a tub!

Check out this handsome little guy. From the moment I walked in the door he was ear to ear with smiles. He is such a happy little guy! 6 months is such a fun age for pictures. They are sitting up (well...usually), smiling like crazy, and are growing into their own little person. This is such a precious time to capture! This shoot was so much fun. My favorite part of photography is capturing memories that the family LOVES. This family LOVES bath time! It is filled with smiles, and sweet baby giggles - so they asked if we could start the session off with him getting his bath. FANTASTIC! Cute, naked, happy baby?! YES!

Babies are amazing. Not only are they ADORABLE, but they love to sleep! So that makes photographing them even more wonderful! This sweet girl was no exception. She slept almost the entire time. We could move her around and change her clothes and she just kept on sleeping! So we had a little fun:

I was rather excited when her mom asked if they could dress her up in her Halloween costume for some photos! I love Halloween and what is cuter than a sweet little girl in a big, poofy cat costume? :) What a great time!

I really enjoy maternity sessions! It is so fun to capture the excitement that the parents have for their new baby. I also love the beach! So, a maternity session at the beach is a realy great day! We went out near Zuma for this session where apparently there was also a wedding going on! It was a rather busy place, but we were able to sneak through everyone and got some GREAT shots!

What a busy summer! I apologize for the lack of posts, but we moved! :) So the blog updates have been pushed to the side for the last few months. With all the packing, unpacking, painting, and work on the new house there just hasn't been time. Next on the house list is the office! I can't wait to start working in there. The plan is to set it up with a studio so that all of you that have been asking about Studio Session will have a GREAT place!! (stay tuned for more updates on that!!)

So, here I am giving you a little sneak peak of a few of the things I have been working on. The last few months have been filled with sweet babies, and lots of loving families. ENJOY!

I abosolutly LOVE Maternity Sessions!! It is such a fun and exciting time for a couple. I enjoy capturing the love they have for eachother and the excitement they have for their baby! Jessica and Jerry were so much fun to photography. They were open to anything, and as you can see it involved us getting a little wet towards the end!! We had a BLAST though! Harry is getting so BIG!

Harry is such a happy little boy!! It was such a blessing to get to photograph his sweet smile and see how much he has grown. This family is BEAUTIFUL and so full of LOVE! It is always so easy and such a joy to photograph them. This session ended with some fun bathtub pictures of the boys getting ready for bed. I absolutly LOVE pictures of a family doing normal everyday activities with their children. Getting to capture the joy of a family is why I LOVE my job!!

As a suprise for her husband (don't worry, he already got the pictures!), Claire came out for a maternity session with her son Jack. What a special gift!! I have been so excited to post these, but had to wait until she gave them to her husband (didn't want to spoil the suprise)!! It was a beautiful morning, in a beautiful field, with two beautiful people. What more could a photographer ask for?! :)

I was driving around town and FREAKED OUT when I saw this HUGE field of wild flowers right in the middle of the valley! So, I did what any other normal person would do, called my sister-in-law and told her we were doing a photo shoot the next morning with my sweet niece! (I didn't want to chance the flowers not lasting!!) What a BEAUTIFUL place for photos!!

WHEN: Saturday, March 27, 2010

10:30am - 1pm

WHERE: Montrose Community Park playground

WHY: To help raise funds for HAITI and to get some cute pictures of your kids!!!

HOW IT WORKS: The photo session will be at the park from 10:3-am - 1pm. You can show up with your kid(s) anytime (or the entire time) during the photo session. Upon arrival I will photograph your children together and individually. Once they are done with their individual photographs tey are free to go play! The rest of your time there I will be taking both candid and posed photographs of your kid(s) as they play. One week after the photo session you will be emailed a password and order information. All photographs will be available for viewing and ordering online at http://www.strawnphotography.com/ . You will be given the option to purchase a High Resolution CD with all of you kid(s) images on it, or you can purchase prints individually. 25% of all sales will go to New Life to the Children (NLC), an organization that helps orphaned and destitute children in and around Port-au-Prince, Haiti. WHAT TO WEAR: Please be sure that your child's outfit is weather appropriate. They will be happier for their photos of they are dress properly. Also, please be sure they are wearing something they can play in.

A FEW EXTRA TIPS: Children are generally more agreeable after a nice nap and a snack. Please bring your children when they will be rested. It is also a good idea to bring a small snack for them to keep them energized Ior possibly to use a bribery during pictures!!)

He was born August 14. He was 7lbs, 19 inches, and oh so PERFECT!!
Hope you all understand now why I have not put up any posts the last few months, but we are back to normal now so be prepared for a lot more updates!!

Markus Wedding

Maren & Ben got married at the Slocum House up in Sacramento. What a beautiful place for a wedding! This Wedding was extra special by the fact that it was for someone I had known since Jr. High! Maren and I were inseparable in Jr. High and were so happy when we discovered that we both were living in L.A only 20min. from each other!!
